Rick Santorum winning more support from Republican women - The Washington Post

This is the most surprising story of the day:

Over the past several weeks, Republicans have watched squeamishly as presidential contender Rick Santorum has waded into multiple controversies that risk alienating half the 2012 electorate: women. But in fact, Santorum has grown more popular among women while talking about his opposition to abortion, his disapproval of birth control and his view that the federal government shouldn’t pay for prenatal screenings.

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows not only that Santorum is doing better among GOP women than he was a few weeks ago, but also that he is less unpopular — and also less well known — among Democratic and independent women than his Republican rivals Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

Beyond scary.  I’m back in the Twilight Zone.

So let me get this straight: more women are starting to support Rick Santorum, even though he would strip them of the constitutional right to use birth control and contraception?

Like Silas said, I think we jumped back through a wormhole into the Twilight Zone, except this is reality!

Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler said it best on Saturday Night Live:

Not only is this douche proposing to strip women of their constitutional right to privacy when it comes to birth control and or abortion, the effect of such a move would remove the argument for the just passed legislation for “equal pay for equal work”.  Why you ask?  Well, if I, as a woman, have no control over when or how I get pregnant then ultimately my time at work would be effected.  I have to take time off for doctors appointments during the pregnancy, to have the baby, and then to care for the child once he/she is born (doctors appointments, sniffles, ect.).  See the real problem ladies?  Do you like your job?  Your pay check?  Do you want Bob to make more than you just based upon his anatomy? Go on.  Think on that. I’ll wait.

Oh, and while you’re thinking, you may wanna chew on this too. You know how you (white) women are working so hard against Affirmative Action?  You know that you are actually the greatest beneficiaries to the policy because of the pregnancy issue?  Economically, it doesn’t make sense to hire a female worker over a male worker because statistically, she will take off more time. This is true regardless of whether or not she possesses a superior resume and skill set.  But you know what helps protect you from being discounted for a position or for education based upon your gender?  Affirmative Action policies.  Yeah. Think on that.

STOP VOTING AGAINST YOUR OWN INTERESTS!!!

I will never understand how a woman can be republican and support the GOP.
